The 1850s. Sweden is a poor country, and many brave the Atlantic in the hope of a more decent life. In this era, our ancestor Anders builds a windmill on Öland — and casts the family’s fate in flour.
Limabacka Kvarn is a genuine family business built on six generations of milling craftsmanship. We are grateful to carry this tradition and craft forward.

Since the 19th century, our family has worked to turn the grain from the fields into flour.
Some years bring a generous harvest — other years a smaller one. As human beings, feeling powerless before nature can be useful; it reminds us of something important.
Our strongest driving force is to leave behind healthier soil for future generations. For your children and for ours.

Local Mills
Long ago, every small community had at least one mill, where villagers went to grind or buy fresh flour. In Värö parish, where Limabacka Kvarn is located, there were once as many as 14 mills.
Today, most of these small mills are only a memory.
Gissleberga Mill is located outside Svalöv in Skåne and is a mill with deep historical roots.
Next to the mill, the Saxån river rushes by — a river said to have powered the mill with its flowing water for centuries, as far back as the 15th century.
In 2016, we had the opportunity to take over the mill when the former owner retired at the age of 89, after a long life’s work as a master miller. Today, we mill all our flour at the mill.
In the small village of Limabacka, a windmill was built in 1897, relying on the sea winds of Halland.
In the image, you can see one of the proud old stone mills at Gissleberga Mill, where we mill our wholegrain flour.
The wind was eventually replaced by electricity, allowing the mill to grind even on days without wind.
